Type 2 Anodising

What is anodising?

Anodising is an environmentally friendly practice that creates an aluminium oxide layer to provide a hard, durable and corrosion resistant barrier. It is used on non - ferrous metals, most commonly on aluminium. Because of the "honeycomb" formation as pictured to the right, it can be coloured.

 

The oxide layer will not peel and under normal conditions will not wear through, providing a higher resistance than untreated aluminium and maintain a high quality finish for presentation.

 

It is commonly used throughout many industries including but is not limited to: computers and electronics, mobile phone components and covers, construction and architecture, aviation, motorsports, vehicles and recreational vehicles.

 

As there are a large range of alloys and each alloy behaves differently when anodised, it is of a great advantage if you know the exact type of alloy. (e.g. 7075, 2011, 5083, etc) This allows us to use the best process for the grade of alloy to get the optimum finish for your products.

 

DNA Anodising can provide a high quality finish in a range of colours. The standard range is shown from left to right:

 

  • Natural finish (clear)

  • Firery Red

  • Bordeaux Red

  • Violet

  • Orange

  • Olive Brown

  • Yellow

  • Green

  • Turquoise

  • Blue 2LW

  • Grey

  • Black

  • Gold

Colour matching can vary due to a number of factors and can not be a guaranteed  perfect match. Please call us in relation to colour matching and how to minimise theses factors.

Custom colours and colour matching are available and incur a surcharge of $25 to $50 depending on the time to match the colour and processes required.
